Loveleigh Brush Lettering Workshop

I've always been envious of people with beautiful handwriting.

Don't get me wrong, mine is perfectly legible and good enough, better than a lot of people's I know, but it doesn't have any kind of spunk or pizzaz to it. It's not that type of handwriting that I admire so much in other people. It's not the pretty, curvy writing people want on their chalkboards and if it was a font, no one would use it. I can design a beautiful scripty graphic in Photoshop any day like my header up above, but pen and paper?? Ha! Good luck, girlfran.

Needless to say, "Take a workshop in something fun" is one of the items on my 30 Before 30 list, so when a friend snapped me pictures of a Loveleigh Creative Soul Lettering Workshop a few weeks ago, I knew I had to give it a go. I signed up for the next class which took place at The Black Scintilla, one of my favorite boutiques in OKC.

I'm not gonna lie, I was a little nervous walking in all by myself -- I am not the most outgoing person when I don't have a buddy with me! But Jessica, the workshop leader, was so welcoming and made me feel right at home. Then, to my surprise, a friend of the family walked in the door (hi, Jan!). It made for such a fun afternoon.

The workshop, complete with mimosas (!!), began with how to mix watercolor ink and then dove in to up-strokes and down-strokes. After mastering the light upward movement and heavy downward movement, we moved on to individual letters (B and M might be the death of me.......good thing they aren't my initials or anything.....insert eye roll). Lastly, we learned how to connect letters and turn them into words.

I'm not a pro by any means, but I left feeling very accomplished and proud of myself. My writing has never looked so beautiful in my life! Maybe with a little practice, I'll be addressing our 2017 Christmas cards with fancy brush lettering. I'm gonna to go ahead and make that a goal for the year, ha!

If you think a lettering workshop sounds fun, give Jessica a follow on Instagram, Facebook or Etsy and keep an eye out for her next event! It would be the perfect thing for a small group of friends, a low-key bachelorette party, or even just a mom-daughter day. Several people in the class mentioned how relaxing lettering can be, and I can totally see why! I had so much fun and highly recommend giving it a try.
