What I Wore to NYFW

what i wore to nyfw

Hi everyone! I just got back from my first New York Fashion Week and it was such a whirlwind experience. It's hard to put it all into words, so before I tried to do that, I thought I'd do a roundup of what I wore. That's what fashion week is about, anyways, right? My favorite part of the whole trip was probably getting to take all these amazing pictures - every corner of NYC is a great backdrop and I am obsessed with how they all turned out, so I had to share!

Packing for fashion week was harder than packing for any trip I've ever been on - even harder than year's two week Euro-Trip, and that's saying a lot! I started planning my outfits back in July, then I ordered/purchased things in early August. I wanted my items to still be in-stock come September so that I could like them for you guys, so I didn't want to order tooooo early, but I also wanted to give myself enough time to try on and return things, if necessary.

Before leaving, I read a lot of other blogger's tips on how to dress and what to wear. My biggest question was how dressy to dress. Some people said no jeans, other people said they wear jeans and cut offs with dressy tops. Some wear super crazy, over the top, high fashion outfits and others wear classy, dressier pieces. Some people said no designer items (for safety reasons) and others went all designer accessories. What I took away from fashion week was that anything goes. One girl sitting next to me at a show had on biker spandex shorts and a sports bra with heels..... so just do you! I think it is perfectly fine to wear jeans and a dressy top if that's what you're comfortable in - it ended up being my favorite outfit! I would recommend dressing up a bit more for evening events but when running around town during the day, more casual outfits are fine. I did wish I brought more of my designer bags with me; I felt like most bloggers carried only the best!

I do have to say that shoes make a HUGE difference. There is a lot of walking in New York, even if you utilize Uber/Lyft, so shoes that are broken in and blister-proof are a must. I also recommend KT Tape - I didn't get a single blister and I wore heels the whole time!

My take away is that Fashion Week is the perfect excuse to be a little extra. To step out of your comfort zone, try something new that you wouldn't wear at home, and fulfill those Carrie Bradshaw dreams I know you all have. Normally I dress like a basic white girl (no shame) but during this trip I wore a lot of sequins, leather, silk and metallics and felt OK standing out and making a statement. I paired classy pieces with edginess and had fun with it from head to toe!

I'll be sharing a "guide to fashion week" post on Friday.... do's and don'ts, how to attend fashion week as a small blogger, that sort of thing. Stay tuned!
