'Twas the Night Before Kickoff

Its here! Its here! The most wonderful time of the year - its finally here! Tomorrow is the first Oklahoma State football game of the season and I wrote a poem to show my excitement.

Photo from Stillwater News Press

'Twas the night before kickoff, when all through the house
Every creature was bustling; drinks spilt on my blouse.
Beer cans were all stacked on the table with care,
In hopes that Zac Robinson soon would be there.

The freshman were sporting their new orange threads,
while visions of touchdowns danced in their heads.
And I in my jersey, and Gundy in his cap,
We can't settle down, so let's dance to some rap.

When out on the strip there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bar to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
tore open the shutter, and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the Stillwater lights
gave the lustre of midday to the beautiful night.
When, what to my eyes would start to gleam,
but the entire Oklahoma State football team.

A greek god of a leader, I was coming undone
I knew in a moment it was Zac Robinson.
More rapid than eagles, his coursers they came,
and he whistled and shouted and cheered them on by name:

Go Crabtree! Go Stewart!
Go Chelf and Gilbert!
Go Walsh! Go Gundy!
Go Pokes and Go Pete!
To the top of the field!
To the top of the stadium!
Now run boys, run!
Go cowboys, all!

And then, in a twinkling, I heard at the door
the cheering and yelling, "Pokes to the core!"
As I drew in my head and was turning around,
in the door Zac came with a bound.

He was dressed in all orange, from his head to his foot
and his clothes were all wet, sweat underfoot.
A ton of muscle he had on his back,
he looked like a model, cue my asthma attack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! His smile, how pretty!
His cheeks were so tan, so soft, like a kitty.
He had a broad chest, a six pack for a belly.
I thought I might faint; my legs felt like jelly.

He was toned and tall, so much cuter than Chelf.
I blushed when I saw him, in spite of myself.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word but went straight to the bar,
and ordered a water for the football star.
The bartender, in awe, didn't charge him a cent
and giving a nod, out the door he went.

He sprang to his Jeep, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all went like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim as he tossed me a flower,
"Go Pokes Go! Lets bring that Orange Power!"

Take me to the Riviera Maya

I had a countdown on my phone from the day we booked this vacation. It was due time my inner beach babe was released. Months of tanning, dieting and working out in preparation for the beach were about to pay off.

We just had to get there first... It would be an understatement to say that flying is not my thing. I hate airports, I hate airplanes, I hate flying, I hate the stress, the confusion, the ear popping, the sick feeling in my stomach...bleh. I am pretty much Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids. "THERE IS SOMETHING THEY'RE NOT TELLING US!" But enough about that....we made it!

We walked into our hotel lobby and were greeted with cold hand towels, champagne, and a bell hop to boot. Holy seashells, Batman (but not the Ben Affleck Batman), I felt like royalty! Every single one of the staff members was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Our room was even complete with five liquor bottles (FIVE!), Oreos, M&Ms and a stocked fridge, free of charge. Is this real life?!

View from our room.
We ate...and drank...a lot. Can you blame us? We had to take advantage of everything the All-Inclusive resort had to offer. We ordered room service like some sort of celebrities. We tried smoked grasshoppers and escargot, had some traditional Mexican dishes like flan, ate a pig that was roasted over a campfire, enjoyed plenty of sea food and drank our weight in beachy cocktails....even one straight from a coconut.

Snails, anyone?
This was by far my favorite drink of the trip.... I only took about 5,000 pictures of it.
We spent a lot of time on the beach....it was glorious...

...but always cleaned up in time for a fancy dinner.

What a babe.
My absolute favorite part of the trip was swimming with dolphins. It has been at the tip top of my bucket list since Mary Kate and Ashley's Holiday in the Sun came out on VHS. Was it as incredible as I imagined?! Every bit. The dolphins were almost like water dogs - they were so friendly and each had their own personality. They were very strong and muscley, yet silky to the touch. They kissed me, sang to me, let me hug them, held my hands, and even took me for a ride (I held on to their fins). It was incredible, and something I highly recommend doing! My inner-mermaid was dancing with joy.

Just so that the green monster of jealousy doesn't completely overtake you, I'll tell you a few disappointments. The water was kind of dirty, the service was a little slow at times, and the yoga on the beach class I had been looking forward to was cancelled. It also rained most of our last day, which was the biggest disappointment in my book. But, everything else totally made up for it. The room? Luxurious. The food? Tasty. The drinks? Plentiful. The staff? Attentive to our every need. The beach? Sunny and sandy - what else can you need?! In all honesty, I wished we could have stayed a little longer and gotten more beach time, but my hair couldn't handle much more humidity. Cole told me I looked like Nicky from Orange is the New Black......accurate.

All in all, it was a fantastic trip, and I am now suffering from a bad case of the post-vacation blues. If anyone wants to send cookies, please do so. Now, I'm just sitting here thinking, where should we go next?!

A Pirate's Life for Me

My friend and college roommate, Candace (we'll call her C-Baby - happy birthday, btw!), and I once declared that we'd rather be pirates than princesses. I mean, wouldn't you? Think of how tan you'd be! And the rum! Oh, the rum. Forget about being locked up in a tower, I'll take a boat...errr, ship...any day.

Wednesday night, Cole and I made our way downtown to the Myriad Botanical Gardens to take part in the SONIC Summer Movie Nights screening of Pirates of the Caribbean. I'd been wanting to go to one of the lawn movies all summer, but life happened. We finally had a free Wednesday evening and perfect weather, to boot (65 degrees in August? I'll take it), so we turned it into a cute little date night. Everybody say, "Awwww."

We brought an OSU blanket to sit on, bought ourselves an ice cream cone from Roxy's, and settled down for some Pirate action.... ah, perfection. The couple next to us miiiight have been a little weirded out with my constant creeper picture taking and given me a few weird looks... Girls gotta get the right exposure, ya know? Thanks for being cute models, guys.

While getting our Roxy's fix, it was brought to my attention that with your Keep it Local card, you get double stamps on a Roxy's punch card. Say what?! How did I not know this?! I could have had so many free ice cream cones already. When she told me this information, the Roxy's lady (sweetest girl in all of OKC) said, "I figured you of all people knew!" Yeah.....we're gonna pretend like she doesn't recognize me. I think I have a problem....hashtag fatkid.

As we watched Pirates and sat in the cool night breeze, I found myself looking forward to my own Caribbean adventure coming up next week. Sun, sand, saltwater, unlimited food, fruity beverages and my babe (who is way better looking than Orlando Bloom, if I do say so myself)... Yes, please. Hopefully the rum won't run out or else I may have to go Jack Sparrow on someone's ass...its a pirate's life for me!

If you find yourself singing, "Yo ho, yo ho" sometime in the next week, grab some friends and head down to the Myriad Botanical Gardens Wednesday evening for a free screening of The Goonies...it's a personal fav. It'll be a swashbuckling good time! And Josh Brolin's character, Brand, is pretty dreamy, too....

Oh, OKC, you make my heart flutter. Thanks for being so darn fun!

Puppies & Pajamas

As I'm sure you know, I have a thing for the K9 breed. Read as: I'm obsessed with dogs; I want to own 15 dogs; I want to save every stray; puppies are my kryptonite. White dogs, black dogs, skinny dogs, fat dogs, tall dogs, small dogs, I love all dogs (no thats not an Eminem lyric, come on now).

Naturally, back in 1997, Air Bud was my all-time favorite movie. It inspired me to beg (literally, BEG through dinner table prayers on a daily basis) to get my own golden retriever -- plus the main star was a total babe. After three years of this nonsense, my parents finally caved. We brought home Cassie, who is now old and white faced but still has a heart the size of Montana and can out-swim you any day.

Such a dreamboat. Best. Movie. Ever.
You can imagine my excitement when I learned that Air Bud would be screened outside at the Oklahoma Humane Society's Midnight Woofness Pajama Party this Saturday night...!!!!! Of course, any movie watching has to include some munchies, right? This event just so happens to include Roxy's Ice Cream, Taste of Soul Eggroll and Mutt's Hot Dogs food trucks - my favorites. In addition, there's a Midway with fun activities, giveaways, a DJ, an appearance from Rumble the Bison (Thunder UP!), cute t-shirts (proceeds go to help local animals), and $25 pet adoptions! Its like all my favorite things all rolled up into one! They are even doing a local scavenger hunt leading up to the event (follow @OKHumane on Instagram to get the scoop!).

You can bet your bottom dollar Chloe and I will be in attendance; Cassie would too, but she's in Kentucky...she sends her regards. Put on your PJs, grab your pooch and join us! The block party starts at 7 p.m. and goes until Midnight in front of the Oklahoma Humane Society Adoption Center on Western Avenue. More information can be found at www.midnightwoofness.org.

There might even be a Midnight Bark (that's from 101 Dalmatians, if you didn't catch the reference).

Orange is the new black.

25 days until OSU football season. It rivals Christmas morning for those of us who call ourselves Cowboys.

25 days until my weekends will be booked with trips to Stillwater, dirty curdies will become a staple in my diet, trips to Quench Buds for pickles and a 32 ou. Barbie will become much more frequent and the magical sound of "ORANGE"...."POWER" will echo out of Boone Pickens Stadium.

25 days until the we jingle our keys, lose our voices, yell "Here comes Bullet!" and join the crowd in the waving wheat.

25 days until it all begins.....

ARE YOU READY?

I am. I spent tax free weekend in Stillwater and my closet is now even more full of Pantone 166. I have several game day outfits already planned out, head to toe. Its glorious, I tell you...unless you look at the current status of my bank account. The only bad part about a weekend in Stillwater (besides Quench Buds being closed on Sunday, of course)? It made me that much more anxious for football season to commence.... Maybe my tall drink of water and I will finally make it on the kiss cam this year....just maybe!

When I was an student, I often found myself gravitating towards the black unis, the black shirts, the black sweats.....why? I have no idea. Now? Gimme that orange. I spent a large chunk of my Saturday searching for a black or grey top to wear with a pair of newly purchased orange jean shorts. Lemme tell ya, it was hard! Like any good alum, orange is my favorite color. I want orange everything. Orange is the new black, and I'm perfectly OK with it.

Just a few of my weekend purchases.
Chloe, sporting her new OSU collar. She loves it.
